Dictionary of National Biography
The Dictionary of National Biography - Oxford University Press
"We have enjoyed the technical skills and software provided by SomCom for the past 15 years. Being able to licence their data manipulation software (SomCNV and SomSORT) has enabled us to accept extremely technically challenging typesetting projects that contain large amounts of data manipulation and data sorting. Projects that have utilised SomCom's consultancy and software include the latest edition of The Dictionary of National Biography by Oxford University Press (60,000 pages)."

Benefits and Solution
Archive Benefits include:
- a greater awareness of the society and the journal to a wider audience, thus increasing the prospect of enlarging the membership of the already successful printed journal
- To open up new revenue sources for the society
- to ensure the original articles are preserved for ever. (eg. not subject to fire or physical damage)
- Substantially reducing storage and retrieval costs in the long run
- to give current / new members the capability to locate any article for research, thus increasing knowledge and encouraging the study and practise of a particle field
SomCom archive solution
- Fully searchable - Instead of just searching headers and abstracts (which is common in some on line databases) SC have written a specialised program that can key word search the whole article, even though SomCom are delivering PDF (i.e. similar to photocopied) files of ordered articles to the end user. This gives far superior search capabilities than other legacy online databases, but gives no public access to the articles themselves.
- Incorporate an E-commerce solution and (or) members restricted area into your website to allow search access to all the legacy data, displaying only the abstracts. Provide legacy back articles via online purchasing using email and PDF files as the delivery route.
